History

Based in Stockport I started making clogs in 1991

I started making items from leather in 1983. The morris group we joined had a simple pattern for breeches - no pockets. So I needed a pouch and then a matching belt and made the same for others. Handbags were requested and my first badge, the double clog design.

When I began making clogs I made my own uppers but like most cloggers initially bought in my soles from Bill and Sandra Turton. Theirs were the only ones with the correct shape to fit the traditional wooden lasts. Others being too flat.

I started making my own wooden soles, initially in beech but now sycamore, and have been making all my own soles since 2000 producing standard sizes as well as bespoke soles to individual requirements.

When Sandra Turton closed in 2004 I was able to buy some sets of her lasts as well as sewing machines and other bits. The rest of her equipment being purchased by other established and potential cloggers

I make no claims to be more special than other clog makers nor traditional in the sense that I am stuck in a particular past time making clogs as they were then. Rather I consider traditional being a continuous journey with each craftsman developing their methods of production and products responding to customers demands.
