HistoryI started leatherwork in 1983 making badges, belts, pouches etc. for Morris dancers.I had already tried making clogs when in 1991 Stockport’s last clog maker, George Hogarth, retired and I bought his wooden clog lasts. Having always made my own leather uppers I initially used clog soles from Bill Turton, as they had the traditional shape that matched the shape of the lasts. I started making my own wooden soles, initially in beech but now mailnly sycamore, and have been making all my own soles since 2000 enabling me to make soles to individual requirements. More lasts came from Sandra Turton when she closed in 2003, as well as her sewing machines and other bits. I now work full time from my home in Stockport |
